What forms of employment are available in Poland?

Under Polish law, there are two main groups of employment forms: employee-based (regulated by the Labour Code) and non-employee-based (regulated by the Civil Code). The first group includes the employment contract in its various forms – for a probationary period, for a fixed term, for an indefinite period and as a replacement. This is the most stable form, guaranteeing full social protection: paid leave, sick leave, notice periods and social security contributions. The second group consists of civil law contracts: contracts of mandate, contracts for specific work, agency contracts and management contracts, as well as self-employment (B2B), i.e. running a sole proprietorship. Each of these forms differs in terms of flexibility, contribution burdens and the scope of protection; therefore, the choice of the appropriate form of employment should depend on the nature of the work, financial expectations and individual circumstances.
